Today we had a photographer meet us at the winery – our vineyard manager was prepping his recipe that’s going to be included in a gorgeous cookbook on recipes from Oregon vintners. After the photo shoot, the staff enjoyed the prepared food for lunch – pork carnitas. It was a delicious, fresh, healthy lunch (the pork was slow cooked and not fried). After, we celebrated a co-workers birthday and the owner’s brother picked up a special gluten-free chocolate cake for me from the same bakery where the birthday cake was bought – a very kind and thoughtful gesture!
I love the kind of days that you know are going to be good. This early part of the day was an indication of such a day. I enjoyed the morning, watching the creative photo shoot open up and create magic, followed by enjoying the food that inspired such creativity – sharing it with co-workers. It was fun. And I was really happy to see our vineyard manager shine in this moment. It was cool.
I had a very productive day at work and left the office reluctant, as it feels like I can always put another 2-3 hours of work in at the end of each day!
When I got home I did some weight training and stretching. I made another Caprese salad and an organic baked potato topped with Tillamook lite sour cream, fresh chives and fresh sweet yellow, orange and red peppers.
Meantime, in the Primaries Obama won North Carolina and Hillary won Indiana. I’m leaning towards Hillary. As a woman, I can’t deny the draw of having the first woman President lead our country. It’s a little bit more dramatic and impactful to me than seeing another man take the office. That’s not my only motivation. Clearly, Clinton is a very smart woman. And I trust her.
I am interested in getting involved in the Clinton campaign. Then I noticed the cool shopping section on her site – I want to order a t-shirt, a button, etc. I am no longer on the fence. I am supporting Hillary! And I feel like I better get involved before the Oregon primary – I signed up online!
Funny, after growing up in DC I had been sick and tired of politics. I always vote, but I lived a rigorous young life heavily influenced by politics. I am slowly warming back up to the political system and with such an historic election, well, this is the first time I have been inspired in a long time. I have long desired to see a woman take the lead in our nation - there are many other countries that have entrusted their government leadership in the hands of women. Can the US be that bold, that compassionate – to finally give a woman her place in the White House?
I am optimistic. I feel like now is time, following the disasters of the Bush Regime, now is the time that the nation is able to be moved to consider a woman. I worry if it doesn’t happen now, when we have such a strong female candidate, that the possibility may pass by. And that would be a shame. So, I feel compelled to step up and do my part.
I want all the young girls in America to hear “you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up” and to know that it’s not a lie – because up until now, if a girl dreamed of being President of the United States, well, she wasn’t really allowed in that club. It’s time to show girls that they really can be anything they want to be – including President of the USA!
Hillary is more than a Presidential candidate – she’s the shining hope for her gender, the shining example that little girls don’t have to limit their dreams to being Princesses rescued by their Prince Charmings, but, rather, they can be the Queens that can change the world.
This one’s for the girls! (Here’s where Martina McBride’s hit song should play on…).
